Canadians came out in droves on October 17th for the first day of legal cannabis in Canada. Although the weed market was down on Wednesday, consumers were lined up around the country to get their first taste of legal cannabis.
Here is a quick look at 5 of the Canadian provinces on day 1 of cannabis legalization.
PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND Three retail stores: $131,434.07 (after-tax added); Online: $20,974.28 (after-tax).
NOVA SCOTIA 12,810 transactions province-wide, resulting in $660,000 in total sales — with $47,000 of that coming from online sales. (source, Canadian Press)
QUEBEC Online site recorded 450,000 visits and seven million page views. Total of 30,000 online orders. Retail stores recorded 12,500 transactions.
ALBERTA Online site:1,040 orders in the first hour after 12:01 a.m., 8,300 total purchases. A total of 28,343 registered users on albertacannabis.org.
BRITISH COLUMBIA A total of 9,980 orders were placed, as of 8 a.m. PDT Thursday.Of these orders, 9,175 were online sales, and 805 were processed at the BCCS Kamloops location.
